More information about Mississippi River Mud Sculpture Doll by Folk Artist Lorraine Gendron

Louisiana folk artist Lorraine Gendron began her art career in the 1980s using mud from the Mississippi River. She started using the material out of necessity — it was readily available and on the house. She used it to mold small alligators, dolls and jazz figures that she then sold during the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition in fresh Orleans.
This elegant Little Ballerina is Full of Personality! Her Precociousness Shows with Her Tongue Sticking Out. Her face, arms and body were made with the mud from the Banks of the Mississippi River. She stands 12” Tall and her arms outstretched approximately 7 1/2”. This is one of Lorraine Gendron’s Original Art Pieces from the early 1980’s. The Ballerina is supported on the wooden base with a wooden dowel.
